Whenever I want to copy images to my computer, using the camera dock, and the USB, the software automatically downloads ALL of the images from the SD card in the camera.
I have asked a friend who owns the same model, and he says he has been unable to figure it out also.
I have read the USER GUIDE from the HP website and read chapter 5, "Transfering and Printing Images" but I think I am possibly misunderstanding the procedures.
Also, the Photosmart software IS INSTALLED on my computer.
Will you please give me step by step instructions for doing this. I am new to digital cameras, so if you can be very specific It will be appreciated. My computer is a PC running XP-SP 2.
Thank You.
Update:Thank you DALE, for the quick response, but I hasten to add that right now I am using a friend's computer, and am a long way from home.
I do not wish to load my extensive file of images into it, but rather want ONLY to load SOME images to a disk so I can carry it home to my own computer after completing my journey.
How could I do that without leaving any files of my images on my friend's computer ?
Thanks Very Much.

1. Connect the dock to the computer with the camera on and attached.
2. DON'T use the download procedure from HP. If it starts, click Cancel.
3. Click on My Documents on the desktop and find or create a folder for your chosen photos. Change the window for that folder to a medium size (not full-screen).
4. Click on My Computer and look for your camera as a new device. It will probably be labeled with a letter and name with HP in it.
5. Keep clicking on the folder for your camera until you've opened up the nestled folders within.
6. Be sure the View option (top menu bar) is in thumbnail mode, so you can see the actual photos.
7. Click on the photo(s) you want to copy and drag it/them to the My Documents folder of your choice. Be sure you are Copying and not Moving the images.
Your friend's computer will now only have the photos you've selected.
Hope this helps.
I would try this- download the images as you always do. Then hold the Window key down (it actually has the Windows icon on the key) and press E just once. Then repeat the procedure. Then tile the windows vertically by right clicking in the blue area at the bottom of your screen, being careful to click on a blank area. In the one window find your newly downloaded photos. Click on one you want to transfer- hold down the control key and add photos. Now you can drag to the other window after clicking on your CD drive with a writable disk in the drive. Then right click on the CD-RW and add to disk. If it doesn't allow you to drag the images to the disk, do a copy of the selected images (Control C) and a paste to the CD-RW (Control V).
It may also be possible using a USB cable to connect your camera, while it is on, to the computer and the computer sees it as a device and will show you image files.
You can also buy a card reader that fits your card, or a multi format card reader, and do the same thing.
