Hey guys, My powerbook g4(15 inch, aluminum, 1GB ram, 100GB hard drive) overheats very quickly(5 mins of web surfing, facebook etc) and sometimes I hear a clicking sound and something squealing going "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and then it will make a very loud clicking and scrapping sound and the noise will stop, I notice most heat in the right and left corners. it's gotten so hot it hurts to touch it and it has put permanent marks on the LCD. I used G4 fan control to constantly have the fans on full as well but it does not help, and sometimes makes it louder. I also noticed today that my wifi became very quirky, disconnecting and requiring me to turn off bluetooth+wifi every 10-20 minutes of browsing and then bluetooth and my DVD drive suddenly stopped working.
As well as it's a pig on power, it gets 1 hour 40 minutes from a brand new, 2 cycle battery on "Normal" mode under OSX Leopard.
Please help, I am a student and don't have enough money to upgrade right away.

sounds like you may be having some of the G4 series infamous capacitor problems. you may need to find a temporary replacement. look on craigslist for a laptop of the same model, just swap out your hard drive and you're golden. shouldn't be too hard to find a g4 powerbook.
