Hello, I have ad kittens before always on premium diets in the past.....but I always bought small bags and now I am getting a new kitten after all this time healing from the loss of my cats.
I realized buying small bags comes out ALOT more expensive than just buying large bags! I would like to keep on varying their food (it's easier with small bags) but in this economy it is hard, but at least i can afford premium cat food right? :) so i have to buy a big bag now.
anyways..what brands do you like most?
I have noticed almost every cat food bramd says it is wonderful for your cat even science diet says that but I heard it is not very good for cats or dogs...and my cats didn't ever like science diet..what are other "premium" brands I should avoid?
I have tried Wellness, Evo, Halo, Solid Gold, Organix, Nutro, Science Diet (I don't like Science Diet, Nutro is okay..nothing compared to wellness though!) I haven't tried Eukanuba though..
Which one is your favorite to feed your kitten/cat? It doesn't have to be any of those brands, that was just something jotted down.
Oh and one more thing please don't forget to answer this if you can..
I came across petco's website and found that food is categorized as 3 main sections:
"It's all natural"
Organic
Hollistic
I guessing organic is good because organic things are premium most of the time...but why is it different than just all natural?
and was is holistic?!
THANKS SO MUCH RESPONSIBLE CAT OWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the terms natural and holistic are unregulated and meaningless. Even the cheap cat foods have "natural" versions - and they are still filled with cheap fillers like by-products and corn. Natural? Yes. Healthy? No. Organic is a term though that is regulated, and means grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. It is not the same as healthy, for cats or humans. Organic potato chips are still potato chips. I once grabbed a container of organic dry cat food (back when I still fed dry) and the main ingredient was corn. Organic corn, but corn is not good for cats, organic or not. My point here is that you need to read the ingredients, and not rely on these kinds of terms to determine if you should buy it or not.
The main thing is what are the ingredients of the food. Does it contain real meat, or cheap by-products? You want to avoid by-products, that is a low-quality protein source and is all the scrap parts deemed unfit for human consumption (beaks, heads, feet, intestines, spinal chords, spleens, and even diseased and spoiled meat). Also avoid corn - cats derive little to no nutrition from it (they are carnivores and need meat!) as it's added because it's cheap, not because it's good for cats. Price isn't a good guide - Science Diet is very expensive, yet is mostly corn and by-products.
I feed a variety of premium foods here - mostly canned, as dry is now linked to such feline disorders as obesity, diabetes, constipation, urinary tract disorders, and kidney disease. The favorite foods here include Wellness (chicken, must be the chicken!), Merrick, Weruva, Blue Buffalo, and a few others thrown in for variety (Natural Balance, EVO, and Solid Gold). What little dry that is fed here is a mix of Wellness and EVO.
Enjoy your new kitten - they don't stay babies long!
If you are buying bagged food, you are not buying premium cat food. Nuff said. With that said, I think the best brands in my opinion are EVO and Instincts. If you are going to go with dry, that's what I would get, but you should get wet food. Much better.
Holistic just mean its natural without by-products and all that crap. My favorite food is Wellness. Organic is better than natural cause Organic means that the animals and stuff in the food were not pumped full of hormones, antibiotics and all that awful stuff. Natural foods will still have all that stuff in it. I hope that helps. :)
