I have a full time job right now as the head of a school's technology department. The pay is good, hours are outstanding, and free time is abundant. I am always looking for ways to make good extra money. The time has passed where you could make really good extra money repairing PCs. I have a big interest in the real estate market and was wondering what it would take and how viable of an option this is. Can someone with some knowledge of this market give me some suggestions or direction on where I should start (besides taking the classes)? Thank you so much in advance for your help!

This is very hard to accomplish part time. First of all you will be catering to the schedule of the buyer/seller, not what's convenient for you. For example you can't keep turning down showings, etc because they want to see the house from 8-5 while you're at work. Secondly with the "real estate bust" around the country (I don't know where you live) some cities are having decreases of -25%+ in new home sales and re-sales.
My suggestion would be getting a job for a homebuilder in your area. You could work on weekends (they are open both days) and not have to worry about marketing yourself as they would do all of the advertising in print, on the internet, etc.
You probably will have to have your license as requirements vary from state to state. I work in commercial real estate and I have my brokers license in Indiana, Florida, and my salespersons license in Illinois, Ohio, and Missouri. Commercial Real Estate is a totally different set of circumstances as you may have more time between deals, however that 1 deal is like selling 25 houses at once.
Good luck in whatever you find!
