The principle of Lincoln middle school wants to send her top science students on a field trip to the state science center. The trip costs $250 for a bus driver, plus $17.50 per student for food and admission.
a. What equation relates to the trip cost c to the number of students who go on trip n
b. what is the cost of sending 30 students? What is the cost for 60 students?
c. How many students can go if the budget allows a maximum cost of $1,000?

a) C(n)=250+17.5n; where n is the number of students.
b) for 30 students, n=30 --> C(30)=250+(17.5)(30)=$775
for 60 students, n=60 --> C(60)=250+(17.5)(60)=$1300
c) for maximum cost of $1000, C(n)=1000 --> 1000=250+17.5n --> n=42.86 but you can't have fraction of a student so, n=42 (you have to round down. If you round off, you'll get n=43 which will put your cost above $1000).
