EDIT: I can't believe it worked, but I altered my resolution and went into Windowed mode, and it allowed me one of my last two buildings for my kingdom. Try either alteration and see if it helps, I'm going to continue playing and see if this is for real...
There are several issues with the game at the moment.
System requirements are obvious, but not the major issue.
There is a crash when a Mirror is given the opportunity to reflect anything.
- Currently the only fix is to turn off Reflections in the Options>Video menu.
There is also a crash when the Security of your kingdom reaches a certain level.
- The reason is that you obtain a special "Wall" to safeguard your kingdom, but several users are having issues with the graphics involved with this wall. Make sure all settings are set to their lowest, and again, system requirements/drivers are up to speed.
The harshest crash is when your Aspects (Well being, Culture, Security, Knowledge) are near or almost maximized and you place a building that will take any one of these over their threshold.
- The team is working vigorously to fix this crash with no current success in sight, I am sorry but we are all riding the same boat at this time. I have searched all over my trusty google and found no fix for this issue, unfortunately, we are likely going to have to wait for a rather major patch before this is resolved.
You can try avoiding the buildings and continue playing, but that's like playing half a game or a demo. I'm going to keep searching for answers, and should I find a reliable one, I may post it here in the future.
I have a Quadcore I7 960 running at 3.2ghz 6gigs of ram, Brand new Asus Sabertooth Motherboard, with a 5970X2 4gig graphics card. I know for a fact its the game having this issue and not my hardware, Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Sims 3, all other games, Including the new Crysis 2 runs flawlessly. My machine blue screens in The Sims Medieval every time, even when I go into the Sims create a character screen. Its a major flaw in the games coding or the engine itself they need to patch it looks like. Since everyone with absolutely different graphics hardware is crashing with the same kind of results. BSOD's Freezing, black screens, glitches etc. We just have to wait until the new patch comes out to be able to play this game unfortunately. Time to load up another game in the meanwhile, but worth the wait.
I'm betting ya have an Intel integrated graphics adapter.
Go to the game options and uncheck the "reflections" option, that should fix the mirror issue.
Tip: Later in the game, when adding new buildings, you'll most likely crash again. It's somewhat random, a lot of people are experiencing it and some get their saves corrupted (including backups).
There is currently no fix for that.
I wouldn't exchange your game, everyone is having these same issues right now. My game started crashing whenever I completed a quest after I got that security wall. I'm sure there will be a patch to fix these issues soon enough.
Until then, apparently one of the best ways of preventing it from crashing is lowering the resolution of the game.
The sims takes alot of memory and i've had sims 3 crash ALOT! There is no sollution besides buying new computer or deleting everything but sims but you could delete stuff thats not importantent or never used on your computer to make it not crash as much, Hope This Helped
What screen size are you running the game on? I was having a similar issue, whenever I tried to place buildings like the Spy Tower or Lighthouse my game would crash and cause the Blue Screen of Death. This didn't start happening until I had increased my screen size from 800x600 to 1280x800. I switched it back to the smaller resolution and everything is running fine. So trying lowering your screen resolution and see what happens.
