My dad is 'upgrading' his computer. His current computer has a 1.2ghz processor and the one he's switching to has 2.8ghz. I know, these computers are ancient. And I know what a processor does, but I guess I'm just curious as to what changes will he notice when he upgrades processors? Like what are the actual differences while using the computer? Does everything just run faster? (opening programs and the sort?)

The processor is the brain of your computer. Faster processors think and do things faster. Of course, this is not the only thing to consider when upgrading the computer. RAM, graphics card, hard drives are also other factors in a computer performance. Before you buy upgrades for your computer like the processor, make sure to check that the new processor is compatible with your existing motherboard.
Good luck!
