Back in biblical times, the last day was Saturday. This was the day of rest. So Sunday was the first day.
Sunday
Saturday is the 7th day... Sunday is the 1st day... but the Scripture you are referring to is often misquoted. You are to work 6 days and rest 1 day. Which means that whether that 7th day is Sunday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday doesn't matter... we are commanded to pick one day a week (our 7th day) and rest. But as far as worship goes, we are to worship God daily... not just on the 7th day. The only difference with the 7th day is that we are to rest.
I believe Sunday is recognized as the first day of the week. But sometime ago, I am not sure of the date, there were only six days to the week. Correct me if I am wrong.
