i know that its better for the baby, but im curious as to why they like it more. im breastfeeding and my son likes it more than formula and ive heard thats true with almost all babies. why?
All babies (in general) prefer breastmilk over formula specifically BECAUSE it's best for a developing child, and nature knows that.
This newborn trait evolved hundreds of thousands of years ago, in an environment when infants didn't really have much else to nourish them other than a mother's milk. Consequently, those babies who DIDN'T like breastmilk also didn't survive long enough to pass on that genetic trait to any offspring.
The fat separates from the milk when it cools. So, it seems like it would need to be warmed if for no other reason. I used an Avent pump and pumped straight into a bottle with a bottle liner, then removed and clipped the liner, put it into another bottle liner (as my lactation consultant recommended because it would be less likely to get nicked...they're thinner than breastmilk storage bags), and added the date and time of day. Then I stored it in the refrigerator or freezer. At this point it was easy to drop back into my bottle for a feeding. Also the breastmilk changes it's fat content throughout the day. So, it is best to put the times on the milk so you can give the baby milk from the correct time of day. Morning has more sugar and less fat to help fuel the waking/playing hours and evening has more fat to help the baby sleep longer at night.
Because breast milk, unlike formula, tastes different every time. Whatever you eat will make your breast milk taste different. Formula on the other hand is always the same and probably very bland. My son has been on formula since birth, so he doesn't know any different. But it makes perfect sense to me that a baby who has had both would prefer the breast milk. It also helps for the future, i've heard that babies who are breats fed are less picky eaters.
Because your breast milk is made naturally just for your baby. Plus, I'm sure your son enjoys the closeness between the two of you during breastfeeding.
Well, mother's milk is made for babies - it is perfect, always the right temperature, and comes in an attractive twin-pack!
Formula doesn't taste the same because it is made from the milk from a mother cow, and is perfect for calves - sure, we have added stuff and taken other stuff out, but it isn't as tasty to a baby human as human milk is.
Darn, don't you hate it when you end a sentence with a preposition?
Have you tried tasting formula? If you have then their is your answer. Breast milk has a much sweeter taste to it. Also formula taste the same every time where as the flavor of breast milk changes with each feed and throughout each feed. People like a variety of flavors.
Well, if your baby has had both then of course they'd prefer the sweeter taste of breast milk. I had to use formula with my son and the smell alone was a turn off! However, he didn't really have anything to compare it to(only was able to nurse for 2 weeks) so he didn't know any different.

Well have you tasted formula, its disgusting. Breastmilk is sweeter. I think its just natural part of life that a baby would prefer breastmilk.

Have you tasted formula?!? Seriously, it tastes awful! And yes I've tasted my own breastmilk and it's delicious;)
Because that's how they're biologically made.
It's fresh, natural, custom made, and has just the perfectly sweet taste babies are born craving.
