I have a Fujifilm Finepix S2700HD and the pictures displayed on the camera a too bright. When I look at the pictures on the camera, they look properly exposed and of adequate brightness. When I look at them on my computer, they are dark and sometime hard to view because of this. I have the camera's brightness set on its lowest possible value and it still does nothing.

Sometimes pc screen and camera brightness don't match and its a common thing for cheap cameras and screens..Also your screen settings,or your cameras screen settings should be checked with other cameras outputs to compare the situation.
Because you have the camera's brightness set on its lowest possible value. Screen brightness and exposure are 2 diffrent things. I'm not sure what's going on in this loopty-loop you got yourself into. But I know it can be solved by making the camera brightness normal, not bright or dark and being sure to check your exposure. Whether you have your EV stuck or metering off the wrong thing, or trying to use a 1/4000- whatever. There is something not right between your screen and exposure. Setting the screen to normal again will help you get the exposure right; how bright or dark the pictures are on the computer.
Sounds like you might need to calibrate your computer monitor.
