They never went away. They're still a current denomination, and printed as needed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. I don't have any data newer than December, but at that time, the most recent printing had been in August 2012.
What they typically do is run off 100-200 million every couple of years, and that's enough stock to hold them until the next printing run.
I wish they did but I read a article about them that said how they got rid of them because they didn't think we needed them so they thought they were pointless.): with them saying that I don't think they want to bring them back
