While most of us would agree this particular company policy is asinine and unfair, possibly even unethical, but it is legal. Companies are free to set their own rules on things like dress code... the Government only looks into hiring practices, finances and safety issues.

It's called a uniform. The reason they are forcing everyone to use the Dickies is because people are trying to slip by with something that barely matches the color and cut of the Dickies.

It is completely legal because they told you at hire time that the pants had to either be original Dickies or an exact match.

As an employer is a private entity, they have the right to tell you basically what you can and cannot wear. Most employers are "at will" as are the employees. They have the right to tell you how to wear your hair etc. Basically if you don't like the policy, than leave, is what I'm trying to say. Dickies pants are pretty inexpensive as I purchased a couple of pairs for my son to wear to work--try WalMart--usually about 9-10 dollars a pair.

It's legal for an employer to have specific attire for work, depending on the job, but sometimes the company will reimburse you for it, if not you can use it on your taxes as a write-off.

I would contact a lawyer in the yellow pages that will answer one question free of charge. That sounds wild.
