The great thing about marketing with food items is...samples!
Set up in front of your shop, or (if you can get a cheap permit) in a relatively busy area with samples of your espresso--people will like anything that is free, and it will give you the opportunity to expand upon further marketing efforts like the website, etc..
You're at a point where you just need some simple marketing ideas to increase visibility and popularity, and not in the evaluation stage of if your product is worthy of customer loyalty.
I think you would need to explain a little more about your company, the story behind it, freshness/history of ingredients, etc. Then we would be able to suggest more concrete avenues to embark on..
Use promo emails for people who are already customers at the shop and want to sign up or subscribe to an online newsletter/blog for updates about special/holiday prices..so that its not spamming..
The best promotion for the company is customer promotion--they can tell others about you better than you ever will..but I still say that samples may at least intrigue them enough to show up..
Oh! and you could also get press from local tv/newspapers (which would bring more people to you) if you decide to partner up with a local community/charity organization where a small portion of profits goes to help a certain cancer or something..like the lemonade stands here in philly--they make a killing..
Handing out samples is a great idea. Make business cards that you can redeem for a free cup of coffee and had them out at businesses and to people you meet along the way. Go to any offices or businesses that are in walking distance and give the office free coffee on a particular day. Just show up with the coffee and some free coupons. If your stuff is good they will come back.
no, market your company to the demographics you identified as who will be spending their money buying your product. body shops take donuts to insurance companies to get on the bid list for accident victims. take all offices around you within a quarter mile a half gallon of your best Along with your card offering a 15% discount and a punch card offering every sixth cup free. Kinda as a welcome to the neighborhood kinda thing.
