I had real bad asthma as a child. I was in an out of hospitals every month for it. I wanted a dog soooo bad. We got a poodle. A mini one and even though poodles do shed, not nearly as much as anything else. I was fine. other dogs would send me running for a breathing treatment, but my poodle, he was the first dog i could actually kiss on the fur without feeling like i was going to die from not breathing or swelling up on my face from allergies.
I find dogs don't affect my asthma and I have bronchial asthma... all my doctor advised me to do is keep the house clean, vacuum daily and brush the dog daily. I have a dog with a double coat who sheds like crazy and it doesn't affect me, the size of a dog will not change a thing either.
if your looking for a dog with short hair to help your asthma than i would suggest getting a Yorkshire terrier; and just keep the hair cut short. or a dog that is similar to that kind.
I have a corgi (welsh tri-colored) and they might me good for you. They may shed if they dint have fish in their diet (in the food) to keep the coat fine, but they are really great and nice. Look them up. Here are some other dogs:

Poodle, Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested, Schnauzer, Bedlington Terrier and Water Dog's are all good for asthma sufferers.

Short haired dogs usually shed more.
I'd go with a poodle, they don't shed at all.
Other dogs:
Portuguese Water Dog, Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Bichon Frise..

1. Terrier (dont shed very nice)
2. Chiuaua(dont know if i spelled that right)
3. Pug (dont shed)
Wirey hair would be best for you. :)
the less hair the dog has the better
