I have been looking for headphones with a budget of $150 or less for a few days now and have narrowed it down to these 2. I read multiple reviews on both but I'm still not sure what to get. They will be used for mainly home use with my desktop and I will use them with a mp3 player sometimes. I listen to mostly metal with a little bit of some other genres like classical and dubstep.

I have the Grado SR80i and they are worthwhile. I did a sound comparison with the Grado SR125i, which were noticeably better, but I didn't want to spend the difference at the time.
The SR125i's are within your price range.
If at all possible I would search out a high end audio dealer who offer both brands, bring a CD-R with music you like to listen to, and test them out.
I borrowed a CD on a label that had a reputation for good recording quality --

Sadly, no longer available on MP3, though you'd want lossless data compression anyway.
If you want to really test it, maybe try this --

Or 'Ilira' or 'Nieve Penitentes 2' by Thomas Köner.
Or maybe these too --

Maybe if you're lucky they'll also offer these --

Or consider this online store --

They have a very tempting offer --

I'd certainly like to try the Audio Technica ATH-M50's too.
