Mama Mia is not a new musical, in fact its very old. At least 10 years old. There is always the possiblity of a school doing a play, the only problem is the cost of doing the play since it is a Brodway Musical. But, it would be just about the same price to do any other "popular" show such as "Grease" or "Les Mesrables" or "Gypsy" it all just depends on your school and how much money they are willing to spend to put on the production
