so my left speaker works perfectly fine, but when i put the wires together to connect the right speaker, that makes both speaker cut out and crackle. the speakers were always hooked up this way. I feel like something is touching or something but im not totally sure. any idea what the problem is?

Seems likely the right speaker is faulty. Get another speaker and connect it to the right speaker wires, if it works ok then replace the right speaker. Don't keep running the amplifier so the speakers cut out because you may kill the power transistors overloading them. If you don't have another speaker you can use right now, just disconnect one speaker wire and wrap some tape around it so it can't short to anything, then just run your system on one speaker until you get another one.
If you have the same problem with another speaker then the right channel in your amp is probably shot.
