hi ive got a dell inspiron 530s with windows xp. when i start my computer it comes up with an error message saying diskette drive 0 seek failure. the computer is just under 2years old and there is no other problems with it and it works perfectly other than being a little slow at the moment.
it would be great for it to just boot strait away without having to press f1 so your answers are greatly appreciated.
(p.s more details can be provided if need be. )
thanks :)

Try to go to the BIOS(tap F2 on the Dell Splash screen). Go to standard CMOS Features. Make sure that Drive A is switch none. Also go to Boot Device Configuration. Make sure that the First Boot Device is the Hard Drive. You can just make the 2nd boot device as the cdrom and anything for the 3rd boot device.
For this problem, its usually a cause by a floppy drive.

At this moment press F2 and probably you will see the BIOS setup screen. If you don't know how to work in BIOS then keep out yourself. But if you like to solve the problem you can try this but on your risk.
Find out this (as like) line " Load setup default " it will ask you "yes" "no" press Yes, now press F10 and yes again.
I hope the problem will be solved.
Thank you.
uh oh. This spells harddrive failure. Is it in a black screen with tons of infomation you dont understand and at the buttom? Mine would just say disc boot failure. Which means harddrive is not starting up properly. Not nesarly harddrive failure. But might as well be. Every once and awhile my harddrive does this. And i have to restart my computer and it fixes the problem. But if it keeps doing it, your harddrive is going bad
Do you have a floppy drive in the machine and is there a floppy disk in it?
If you do have a floppy drive with no disk loaded, then possible floppy drive issue.
