My cat, who isn't really very social (except when she wants her treats or food or her litter changed) just hangs out with me on the chair most days.
However, I came home feeling very ill a few times, and after removing my shoes, I had literally collpased on the bed and slept for a day and a half.
She'll lay next to me, on her own pillow, and not move, meow, or complain until she sees me feeling better. I questioned it the first time, but I can count on her now.
More inteligent animals that have a bond with you can tell different moods. Even my rats could tell when I was down in the dumps or cheerful, almost like trying to comfort me when I was down.
I really think that animals have a sixth sense, I do. Animals are amazing when it comes to being alert about many things. It is the animal instincts that keep them alive.
I have no doubt that animals can sense when things are wrong. No doubt whatsoever.
My cat saved my life. She did. I had just gotten a new down duvet and she absolutely hated how it felt under her paws, so she stopped sleeping at the foot of the bed. It was a cold January night when I was awoken by her claws digging into my chest. I batted her away while in a groggy state of mind and went back to sleep. She began to meow loudly while pacing back and forth on my headboard frame as she jumped on my chest again and really dug her claws into me.
I woke up half dazed to what smelled like diesel truck exhaust. I realized something was terribly wrong. I scooped up the cat and ran downstairs to the basement. I found the duct work that was attached from my oil furnace to the exhaust flue was collapsed on the basement floor because the support brackets failed. I was breathing recycled toxic spent fuel oil gases and carbon monoxide poison. No wonder I was so groggy.
I would have died 16 years ago if my cat had not woken me. My family was out of town and I was the only one home at the time. Had it not been for my cat, I would have been found, dead in my bed three days later, on Monday morning.
