Two meals a day is perfectly fine. I would be more worried about them being outside, to be honest with you. But I would only feed three meals a day if it were still a kitten.
I guess your cat has adapted to that schedule. Mine are snackers, eating many small meals throughout the day and night. But other cats will adapt to set feedings. As long as they seem active and maintain their weight, things should be fine.
Actually every cat I have ever had has had access to dry kibble 24 hours a day. I have never had one with weight problems. Not every cat is so lucky though.

Adult cats should be fed in the morning and at night. Kittens under 5-6 months old can eat 3 times a day.
NO, they will get fat if you feed them 3 times a day, kittens can eat this much because they are constantly running around and burning it off.
Adult Cats need to eat 1-2 small meals but make sure they get tons of water!
about 1oz per pound they weigh...

cats can eat once a day, but most common is to feed them in the morning and at night
No lunch
if you leave food out all day, eventually you will get a fat cat
