Though the Acura is $1,000 more MSRP I have both deals worked out to the same monthly payment. Only with the Accord I would get a check back for $600 more for my trade ($4000 vs $3400). The TSX is a nicely tuned off-the-line happy 4cyl, where the accord is v6 with more overall power and smoother overall ride. I've been going back and forth with both cars for a week now and can't decide. I'm coming off a mazda 6 v6 if it makes any difference. I went through with a spreadsheet and weighed out the pros and cons of both and the list came out freaking equal.
front seats are better in the tsx
back seat is MUCH roomier on the accord
the tsx also has 60/40 split back seats (good) where the accord is a full bench (bad).
the engine/power/ride is really pretty comparable, at least on flat road. tsx is a little more peppier until you get on a hill, then you're glad you have the accord.
the tsx has the manual shifting options that the accord doesn't. though i'm more of a fan of the slapstick then the paddle shifters.
tsx has factory usb ipod control where I'd have to pay $175 for an adapter with the accord.
tsx has nice display of fuel economy and range that the accord does not.
exterior and interior styling of the tsx is better.
accord has rear seat ventillation.
accord uses regular gas instead of premium (tsx is only a couple mpg higher)
i like the wheels/rims of the accord better as well
tsx has seat position memory tied to the key fobs
Update:Guess I should have mentioned I am leasing too. So in 3 years I can get something different. In the Acura I could move up to a TL and probably get a pretty good deal. With the accord there is no where else to within the Honda family other than a SUV/crossover.

Ok, so they are different cars. It all depends on what you will be using it for.
Personally, I would go with the Accord. The only good part about the TSX is the sportiness, the mpgs, and the luxury. You can easily add plenty of luxury to the Accord. The TSX uses premium fuel, so in fuel costs its going to be higher. The TSX isn't very sporty, I'm sorry. It's a step up from the Accord, but the sportiness factor in the FWD TSX is very very LOW compared to its RWD competitors. The Accord is more practical with more room and less cost over the years, because of the high cost of premium fuel and maintenance for luxury vehicles. And, you know you child grow up and grow up fast. What will you do later if he isn't comfortable in the back of the TSX? And, the Accord EX-L SHOULD have 60/40 split seats.
TSX pros:
sportier
more luxurious
better looking
Accord pros:
more practical
better for family
can last your child from birth to college.
better in hilly areas
good grip in bad weather
less cost of owning
holds its value better
From the two I would say get the Accord.
A few suggestions?
1.) Acura TL
Sure its pricier, but its worth it. It has all the space and practicality of the Accord, and all the luxury, sportiness, and looks/style/substance of the TSX. Again, only problem is price. I would definitely go with that. Plus it has AWD - better off the line performance, better on hills, ans better in weather.
2.) Hyundai Sonata Turbo.
Don't laugh. The new Sonata has awarded multiple awards, has gotten great reviews, and has received plenty of praise. And very soon, Hyundai will release the turbo version. Basically, it has more power than the Accord V6 and better mpgs than the TSX. A turbocharged 4-cyl means V6 power, but 4-cyl thirst. Quality is amazing and the room in the back outdoes even the Accord.
Acura Tsx Vs Honda Accord
I've owned 2 Acura TSX's and before that I had the Accord V6.
If I was buying a new car, I would go back to the Accord V6, which I will probably do next time.
The TSX is awesome, but it just doesn't have much low-end power. In the V6, I could be doing 80mph by the time I hit the highway on an on ramp.
The power comparison isn't even close.
The TSX has good handling, great NAV system and stereo, built-in XM radio, heated seats and mirrors and is very tight (in a good way)
But it is over-priced. It uses the same 4 cylinder Vtech that is installed in the European version of the Accord.
The difference in fuel cost is a wash since you need to use premium in the TSX.
I average about 33hwy/ 28 mpg overall in the TSX
EDIT: I just remembered that the TSX now offers a V6 model. But, they ruined the look of the new models.

RE:
Do I buy a base Acura TSX or a Honda Accord V6 EX-L?

Since they are both Honda products (The TSX is actually the European spec Accord) you'll get the same reliability and excellent resale value from both cars.
The Accord is marketed as a conservative family sedan the TSX is more of a sport sedan with it's focus on performance rather than ride comfort.
The TSX advantages you list are front seat comfort, better styling, iPod connectivity, split bench in back, peppier performance. The biggest advantages you list for the Accord involve the back seat (roomier with air vents). I'm not sure that would be enough to sway me away from the Acura.
I don't know your age but I see the Accord as the father's family sedan and the TSX as the son's sports sedan.
forget them both. go for the superior product, a Honda crosstour exl. great car in all areas. puts acura and accord in back row.
I agree with everything you said, I ended up getting the Honda and I haven't had any issues with it and am very happy with the purchase. The only difference is maybe the stereo system is better in the TL but i can't really remember.
