yes. Generally, all parachutes used for skydives, paratrooper training, and basically parachutes used in planned jumps get rechecked and repacked for re-use.
Most fatalities and injuries are caused by human error and a small percentage by actual equipment failure.
1999-2002:
Worldwide: Less than one fatality for every 420,000 jumps made.
U.S. Only: One fatality for every 540,000 tandem jumps.

8 fatalities (one for every 83,838 jumps).

Have fun with it. I have jumped ever since I was in the army with friends on a weekend dare. IT WAS EXCITING!!! My 27 year old son just went for the first time and he can't wait to go again. If you are ever in Las Vegas, they have two different types of jumping to see if you like it. One is the FLYAWAY, a windtunnel pushes you into freefall sailing. The other is out of town using a zip line 1000 ft over the desert floor and you travel at 50 mph in a harness and you soar like a bird. Deathrate is slim. Parachutes get reused unless during inspection/repacking they get rejected . By the way, your parachute can only be packed by CERTIFICATED parachute packer. I also had a friend on ladie's world record stack of parachutists. They had a problem getting tangled after stack record and all made it to the ground OK. Don't be scared! You'll love it because of your desire to accomplish it before you die---and there's no day like tomorrow!!!
Yes, and you want to make sure that the person repacking them know what they are doing. They have to be laid out flat on the ground with all lines untangled. They then start refolding them from the top of the parachute down to the case, It is a tricky thing to do that is why you want someone that knows what they are doing to do it.
Yes
Yes. They are checked and repacked.
yes, they get inspected, and if still intact (no holes, tears, rips.....), they get reused.
