MDF contains formaldehyde and I was wondering if termites would avoid furniture, or fixtures that were made from MDF because of this fact.

As a matter of interest, not all MDF contains formaldehyde.
Termites tend to eat the softest cellulose materials they find first. As an example:
Some termites got into my daughter's home. They skipped the yellow pine wall studs. They went for the white pine window trim and the paper that is on both sides of the drywall boards.
