Last Saturday, March 7, 09, I gave my cat the prescribed medicine Drontal. I was given one and 1/2 tablet to give him. He ate his dinner and i gave him the medicine in a pill pocket. He had no problem taking the pill pocket or eating his dinner. About 15 minutes after he had the medicine he threw up a white foam, I thought it must just be from him taking the meds, never thinking anything could happen. He stopped eating, drinking and on Monday i took him in, his breathing was obstructed and he could not eat anything, it would come right back up. They said his air way was obstructed where nothing could get through, and suggested he be put down. They felt he had a mass in his lungs that caused the pressing against the passage way. However, before taking the drontal, he could eat, drink and had no breathing problems. It was a sad day, I feel I killed him by giving him the med. I had to have him and my dog put down at the same time. It was the most horrible day I can remember. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem with Drontal?

First off I am very sorry for your loss!
All 5 of our kitties have taken a dose of Drontal with no side effects at all.
Did the vet diagnose the blockage via an x-ray or an ultra-sound or some other method? If he used some other method the diagnosis may be incorrect.
Assuming that the vets diagnosis is correct. There is no way that Drontal could have caused that problem that quickly. The condition was already there when you gave him the pills. The stress from throwing up might have exacerbated his underlying condition; however, there is no way Drontal could have caused the problem. You did not kill your kitty with Drontal.

I did a Google search on Drontal side effects cats
Here is the URL to the first page of the search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&num=50&q=dronta... you can go there and read some of the pages.
According to the few pages I looked at, there are few side effects of Drontal . They mention vomiting or diarrhea but nothing much more serious.
We've give cats Drontal in the past with no problems.
I'm not saying the Drotal did not cause the problem but the odds are exceedingly low that it did.
Coincidences do occur and this likely is one.
My sympathies for your losses.

all of those symptoms are side effects of drontal, and the cat probably would have been fine. dont ever put an animal "down" because a vet says so. the vet isnt at home with you. it doesnt know the animal and is basin everything on books and bs tests.
