I've been a nanny for 2 years now to a 4yr old. I cook, laundry, clean (childs mess), get grocerys up to 3 times a week and pick her up from school. I average 38-40 hours a week but some weeks I work up to 42. During the day along with the child, her grandparents are there. I find managing a 4yr difficult at times and even more so with input of the grandparents. I respect them but its hard to do my job when someone else is telling me what to do instead. I make 12 an hour atm and I dont get paid for gas. My concerns is asking for gas money & inquiring about a raise. I've never asked for more money from past jobs. How should I go about this?

I just asked a similar question the other day. Have you ever asked for a raise?
This is the answer that I chose as the best:
Yep...several times....I don't think I have ever worked anywhere there were scheduled raises.
I suggest you make a job description if you do not have one, so you can show on paper exactly what you do.
Then list any improvements you have made while in the position, anything you have done above and beyond what is expected of you, and any money you have saved the company.
That lays a good financial basis for your getting more money.
If you can't support it that way, do some research and find out what other companies in your area pay for a similar position. Of course, you may find out that you are not underpaid if you do that. :o)
point out all that you do and tell them how much you love being there and being able to be a part of their sweet daughter's life, but times are getting hard and you have been there for two years, and was wondering if you could get a raise to help compensate various changes in the economy/life
Don't be shy to ask, it's your livlihood we're talking about :) I was 15 (now 22) when I asked for my first raise and it was successful, this is basically what i did. I also read that women are better about asking for things ... like a raise a day before thir cycle starts lol idr the reasoning .... something about having more confidence and attitude type hormones? i dont knw dont quote me on that part lol
good luck!
That seems more than a 12 per hour job. Don't sugar coat things. Demand a raise or quit.
just go say i want a raise
