I want to organize an annual music festival outside the city limits of my home town. Any tips/suggestions for getting started? The idea is to feature local artists, give them a place to network, & promote local music & merchandise. We're working off a very minimal budget. Any help will be appreciated.

First of all, you have to decide the number of people involved (number of bands involved, spectators showing up, security-if needed).
Second, outside of city limits suggests out in the country. Therefore, I would try a farm of a considerable size. Does it have the electrical means to support an activity such as yours? Does it have enough room? Will there be a stage area and will you have to build one?
Third, you have to consider parking arrangements. Since, everything is your question indicates local bands, ask local bands if they might help out in this situation, or they may already have a place picked for this situation. I know that I would jump at the chance to get involved in a venture like this. E-mail me for more usggestions.
Cheap Trick headlines, supported by Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Heart, The Pretenders, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. It would be held on the riverfront on St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien (I always thought that would be a great place for a music festival). BA: Trick Fest number (whatever is next) BA2: One More by Cheap Trick BA3: The Latest, Rockford, Cheap Trick ('97), Cheap Trick ('77), Music for Hangovers, Silver (I had a hard time deciding which of the 6 to leave off the list)
Location? Find a restaurant or pub or park or business that will let you use some of their space for FREE (to bring business to their location)
Promotion? Find local businesses to sponsor the event (no money out of your pocket) the more sponsors you can get the better the festival can be.
