iPod can only play mp4 or h.264 videos. so make sure your video format is right. you may need a ipod converter to help you. I'm using leawo free ipod converter. It has notjing with your media palyer. What you need is to make sure the video format is suitable for ipod.
If the movie format is MP4 or H264, you can sync it on your ipod directly. If not, you need a converter, because ipod only support the above format. i have no idea. try dragging and dropping it into your ipod.. maybe try "manually manage music" tab if thats a possibility to do on linux. im a windows user.
try downloading itunes. that would be way easier in my opinion. and itunes will automatically put the movies on
