Premarin is the commercial name for compound drug consisting primarily of conjugated estrogens. Isolated from mare's urine (PREgnant MARes' urINe), it is manuactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and has been marketed since 1942. It is available in oral (0.3/ 0.45/ 0.625/ 1.25mg), IV, and topical form.
The major forms of estrogen in Premarin are estrone (>50%), equilin (15-25%) and equilenin. The estrogens in Premarin are often called "conjugated equine estrogens" (CEE) because the estrogen molecules are generally present with hydrophilic side-groups attached such as sulfate. Thus, estrone sulfate is actually the major molecule in Premarin. Estrone sulfate is easily absorbed into the blood after Premarin pills are taken by women. Estrone sulfate is converted to estradiol, an active estrogen normally found in women. It is not clear if estrogens such as equilin that are foreign to the human body have effects in women that are significantly different from the estrogens like estradiol that are normally made in the human body.
Premarin has been one of the most widely used drugs in the United States. Premarin became the form of estrogen most commonly used for hormone replacement therapy.
It affects the male in many ways. What I have found for me is that it slowed my hair loss on my head, slightly decreased the hair growth of my facial hair, developed breasts (I now have a size 36C after achieving a 38B and gaining a lot of weight). This took some time and I must emphasize that you should not take the highest dosage possible. I took a 2.4 milligram (these are the yellow pills) dosage every other day and developed as a normal female would over a period of five to six years. Taking the maximum dosage (4.8 milligram (the purple pills)) is strongly NOT recommended even for the healthiest of people nor for the natural female who is no longer producing an egg every month.
Weight gain is NOT the worst side effect, but is the most noticeable. You should stay on top of blood test results of the liver and pancreas as well as watching your blood pressure constantly. If any combination of these four side effects result in a negative manner, you should consult with your physician ASAP!
After not taking premarin for more than four years I still retain a 36C but have lost the excess weight (50 pounds) much to my joy! I enjoy being a slimmer woman who can fit the size 8-10s that is the average size of women today as well as the size 9 shoes that seem to fill my closet! - Heck - I had to get out of the closet just so my clothes and shoes would fit in!!
Male transsexuals would not take premarin. It would have disasterous effects on their transition. Female transsexuals might as part of their hormone therapy.
Just a little education here...the gender adjective you use with the word transsexual is the internal gender of that person. So, MtFs use female because they are and FtMs use male for the same reason. It's actually insulting to call a female transsexual male for any reason, because they are female.
This is not a put down, but if your "straight" why would you like to find a transexual around your age, it is not to be just friends this I am sure of, but you are correct they are beautiful people to.
