The exhaust pipe muffler temperature is usually between 300 to 500 degrees but can go much higher. The catalytic converter often reaches a temperature of 750 degrees. However, if you have more unburned gases leaving the combustion chamber or one of the cylinders is not working, you will experience a tremendous increase in temperature. The faster you drive the higher the temperature.
Not hot enough to boil out all the water that is in the exhaust pipe from sitting overnight and then you drive less than 10 miles in one direction...before you shut off the car. So mufflers RUST from the INSIDE.
