we take in rescue horses from all different training styles. I dont show horses or anything like that but ive noticed one of my horses sometimes parks. Im not positive if the word is correct so ill describe it. He stops then steps his fore legs forward a bit so his stance is wider than normal. a trainer has taught me a few other dressage techniques but i was wondering what the cue was to get him to do that. thank you.

Parking out is not a dressage thing, it is a saddleseat thing. Saddlebreds, Morgans, Arabs, TWH, and I'm sure there are other breeds that do it. Saddleseat or Fine Park.
When I rode saddleseat, we would take our feet forward and tap them on the shoulders and raised our hands when at halt. For a halter class, we tapped them on the shoulder with a hand or butt end of the whip, and raised up the lead shank. Be sure when you are 'unparking' the horse that you back them up a step to bring the front end toward the back rather than pulling them forward as this is hard on their back/loin.
Usually the cue to park is a tap on the shoulder. That's how i've always seen horses cued into park. Next time he does it just really pay attention to what you are saying/doing and think back to everything you said or did. My horse isn't trained to park, i'ved tried teaching her but it takes SO long. I've noticed her doing it by herself in the pasture or the cross ties.....
what?
