Because of their age and the driving style that they were subjected to at this point in time they are probably no longer considered very reliable. When they were new they were fine.
I'm not sure specifically about the 3000gt's but I heard mitsubishi's are somewhat reliable but they are expensive to fix when they break. My dad owned a mitsubishi galant and we had that thing for years, it ran like a dream.
I know that the 3000gt is a very heavy car, and it was also sold as the Dodge Stealth (don't know if this helps)
If you really want to know specific common problems just google 'mitsubishi 3000gt common problems' I'm sure you'll find a lot.
Also you can find common problems at
http://www.carcomplaints.com/
and recalls at
http://www.internetautoguide.com/10-1/auto-recalls...
and various other sites if you poke around on google. Also consider joining a mitsubishi forum...the only guys know more about mitsubishi's are the ones who make them.
Personally, I would rather drive an Mazda Rx7 with an LS1 swap, or a stock Nissan 240sx, and if I was going to go AWD I would definitely go with the Mitsubishi Evo (much newer and better AWD than 3000gt) or even the nissan 300zx.
Also, be sure you get a good one...the way a car was driven before you get it makes just as much difference in reliability or even more than the type of car. Don't get one that was abused..find one that was driven by an old granny. Believe it or not, this is what you want. Granny's are much easier on cars than teenagers that floor it everywhere...there's a reason insurance gets cheaper as you get older.
hope this helps :)
The base model is slow
Yup, they have a history of both engine and transmission problems. Not recommended.
