Ok I'm going to have to tread carefully here
Cancer is a horrible horrible disease, there's no denying that. But as a teenage diabetic myself I feel I'm often misunderstood, and that it isn't that much of a problem. But Diabetes very nearly killed me 3 times. Im looking after it now of course. If you look after it of course it will look after you I suppose, but if you don't.... I don't even want to contemplate the consequences. So does it have the POTENTIAL to be as bad as cancer? As I say I often think a lot of people (not everyone of course) simply don't understand the severity of this disease, and it can really annoys me sometimes,

This is like comparing apples and oranges--two completely different things. Yes, cancer can be bad, but not all cancers these days automatically are fatal, many can be stopped before they become fatal if you catch it in time and if they are of a certain type. Other cancers are an automatic death sentence still. Type 1 D if not controlled and tended to can be very dangerous and damaging, and if nothing is done can cause the person to go into hypoglycemic shock and die. Luckily, Type 1 can usually be attended to through insulin injections, diet, exercise (all the good things) and the person can live a long, healthy, full life--but the person has to take his disease seriously all the time, it isn't something you can just go "man, I'm tired of doing all this and I'm going to stop" unless you do want to die or face some serious damage to your body much of which can't be undone late. It's also been more tragic since it most often does affect young people who haven't had a chance to be irresponsible and carefree (and once they get Type 1, they never will be able to be). And, as you pointed out, most people are vastly unenlightened about it and don't seem to care to be educated. And I think the Am. Diabetic Assoc. should really step up their public elucidation about diabetes (both kinds). I mean, we have so many forms of media these days. Merely saying (which I've heard and read a lot of times) that diabetes is due to soft drinks or fatty foods or being overweight or eating too much sugar is sending the exact wrongest message.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.
If type 1 diabetes is poorly controlled then it is certain that you will die from ketoacidosis or kidney disease. Decades of research and statistics prove that hyperglycemia can be fatal. In the 1950s, people did not live nearly as long as they do today with type 1 diabetes because today's technology can eliminate hyperglycemia and control blood pressure significantly better. If type 1 diabetes is well controlled then it is highly unlikely you will die from type 1 diabetic complications. You can still require a kidney transplant and have good blood sugar level control.
Type 1 Diabetes is when your pancreas quits secreting insulin. You have to control it with diet, insulin injections or insulin pump, and daily blood glucose monitoring. Type 2 Diabetes is when the body becomes resistent to the insulin it makes. It can usually be controlled with diet or oral mediction, although some people still check their blood glucose levels and take insulin injections if other treatments don't work well enough. Note: Anyone can get Type 2, even those who lead an active healthy lifestyle. You are more likely to get it if you make unhealthy choices, but there are many fit individuals that have Type 2
Neither type of diabetes is fatal in and of itself! It does however have a very nasty tendency to affect the nerves, blood vessels, heart, liver and kidneys most adversly if we don't try to keep our glucose levels as near normal as possible!
It isn't the diabetes that kills! It is the other organs affected that do!
No! diabetes, either type is controllable! therefore not as bad as cancer! Cancer just advances and grows until it takes the entire person all by itself! they don't die of heart disease, liver or kidney failure, they die of cancer growth!!
Yes, I get super irritated with people who don't understand these 2 diseases also! Either they are slapping my chosen snack out of my mouth or they are telling me what I can have for lunch at their house when I have planned carefully for whatever they might serve and taken the proper amounts of both oral and insulin medications. I get super irritated with those who think I can have a potato, a serving of peas and carrots and some kind of pasta rather than have a piece of candy! Candy is less sugar!! The know-nothings also insist that BROWN bread and rice and stuff is healthier! BS!!! It is still carbs and must be counted whether white or brown!!!

What KIND of cancer? Some cancers are extremely quick and efficient -- by the time you are diagnosed, you have 6 weeks to 3 months to live.
On the other hand, some cancers are so slow as to be almost "not deadly". Almost all men over the age of 75 have prostate cancer -- but they die of old age before the cancer gets them.
Diabetes by itself is almost non fatal, and with the discovery of insulin more than 100 years ago, treatment of diabetes is one of the surest trreatments known in medicine. A proper application of insulin WILL reduce the effects of diabetes in ALL patients, if the patient follows doctors orders EXACTLY.
But the side effects of diabetes are almost 100% fatal. Unless the diabetic is hit by a speeding bus, the diabetic patient WILL die of diabetic complications, and usually die at an age from 10 to 20 YEARS earlier than a "normal" person.
The fatal side effects of diabetes are kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and infection. Diabetes also often results in amputations, blindness, loss of control of bodily functions, and the inability to have sex. While none of these are fatal, the quality of life is greatly reduced. SInce the diabetic patient often needs more personal medical care, diabetics spend more time separated from their familes by being in the hospital or nursing homes, and diabetic patients often die alone in hospitals or hospice care.
Given all this, I STILL don't think you can compare Diabetes to Cancer. BOTH are horrible diseases, but diabetes is much slower and more insidious than cancer.
>I< think the big differnce is that while neither Cancer nor Type 1 Diabetes can be avoided (Type 2 Diabetes CAN be avoided), Cancer is MUCH more difficult to treat, and treatments are often ineffective. Even Type 1 Diabetes can be effectively treated, and its side effect limited or delayed, by proper medical care and personal self-discipline.
