It depends on if you want your team to have strong pitching or strong hitting. If you do the trade you will have the best pitcher in baseball hands down. If you don't you will have a guy in Howard, who can hit for tremendous power, though I don't think he will hit 50 HR's any time soon. I think Bay is overrated but has the capability of hitting 30 HR's a season. Lackey is good but Santana is better. Bay is good, but Howard is better.
So, like I said it depends on if you want to base your team around pitching or hitting.
I would think you can do alright finding a suitable replacement for Howard with so many power first baseman. Santana is a one-of-a-kind pitcher. Go ahead and do the trade. You will be getting 2 impact fantasy players for 1 impact and 1 decent player.
I like the Johann and Bay side better. Johann will be the premiere pitcher in the league for the next 5 years and Bay is just entering his prime. Howard is an excellent keeper but my concern is Lackey. He is a good pitcher, no, an excellent one but plays for a team that offers very little offensive run support when he pitches and I know he signed a long term deal with the Angels so that makes me shy away from Howard and Lackey.
Johan is the best pitcher in the world, and Jason Bay is a top level guy in an otherwise weak position.
Ryan Howard is a beast but I'm not too fond of him, his strikeout numbers are rather high, and I think he's plateued already, there is no way he can get any better then he was last year.
John Lackey is the ace on all but 2 of my 12 teams, so I have love for him, but to upgrade to Johan it doesn't get any better.
johan and bay by far santana is alot better than lackey . Bay has so much potential. Wait till he goes to a highspending team howard is great but i see mo vaughn when i watch him
right now i would definitely say johan and bay are better. howard is struggling and u know that johan is the best pitcher in the majors. i would never get rid of johan for anything personally unless it was like arod or someone of top caliber. howard just isnt there right now.
