Im indian and hindu, but i grew up in the US. I really like the name lolita for a daughter and many people dont know that Lolita means ruby in sanskrit (look it up) so i wanted that as a name. Im worried about the taboo though. What do you think?
Update:Id also like it to be a sanskrit name

I love the way the name sounds, but I'm afraid that I would only ever be able to think about the Nabakov book. While it is a fantastic novel, and I love it, it's not something that I would want my daughter to be associated with. I think that, in this case, the negative connotations are just too strong to use the name, even though it is lovely. You might be able to get away with using Lolita as a middle name, or possibly using Lola instead. Best of luck!
Lalitha is a Hindu name
I advise against it, since it resembles Lolita
In amercian culture, Lolita refers to a teenager having sex with an old man, based on novel by Nabukov
I think Lolita is a beautiful name.

Definitely NOT! The book Lolita by Vladimir Navokov (I think that's how it's spelled...) is basically about a slut, pure and simple.
Sorry i dislike it.The name Lolita in the U.S.A. has a bad reputation from a movie
I'd say no to Lolita. What about Lanie or Lancy?
I dont like it that much, but you have to remember thats she will be your child so if you like it go with it :)
