lots of toys, lots of walk, lots of affection, a bed time treat is what i do for mine, i work long hours and when i get home is our time. i set aside an hour a night for doggy play time
Is the dog acting depressed or just looking depressed? I have a German Shorthaired Pointer that is a trained mobility service dog for me. She may "look" depressed when she's working, but it's only because she's concentrating on her surroundings to keep us safe. She also has the amazing ability to turn her eyes red when she wants sympathy... or food! Once she realizes that the food isn't coming and the ploy isn't working, her eyes go clear : - D! This is the only dog I've ever met that could do that. Some breeds, or breed crosses will also get that sad "hound-dog" look in their genetics. How many happy-eyed Bloodhounds do you know?
If your dog is suddenly "acting" depressed, it would be worth a trip to the vet's office as there are several problems that can be making your dog sick that aren't outwardly visible.
A dogs eyes can tell you a lot of about your pet.Take him for a daily walks, play ball, take him for rides in your car. Just spend a lot of time with your dog and he will be happy all the time and his eyes will show it My Friend.

If a dogs eyes say sadness maybe he doesn't feel well, play some and keep a close eye on him!

Your Friend,

Some dogs just have sad eyes. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. My APBT has sad eyes, but i know he's happy.
Look at the second pic of him on the link i posted and you'll see what i mean. He's spoiled rotten and happy though.
Anytime a dogs behavior changes in any way, then it's time to take him to the vet and get him checked out!
Run with him daily, play with him in the yard, etc.
Be sure he has daily or nearly daily interaction with other dogs, like at a dog park.
Maybe his eyes just look that way.
