if you didnt see my pervious question, i got a pitbull from a shelter 3 days ago. i already had 2 cats. one is 6 years and the other is 12. were separating them for a while.
when they meet the dog starts to shake a little and pant even whine a little. sometimes he barks but he never growls aggressivly twords the cat
the cat hisses and backs away and arcs his back a little.
this time i had him tied up on a leash where he couldnt get the cat. i had him rolled on his side and the cat would come close ever now and then.
when he stands up he stares at the cat and has his tail under him, but he doesnt growl. the cat slowly backs away.
what does this mean, can any one help?
Update:the dog is two years old, hes great with kids women and men and other dogs as well.

I almost think he's scared of the cats, but he may just not know what to think of them. Exercise him a lot before letting the two interact and keep him on a leash for the time being to make sure you have control. Let the cat show him that the cat's are the boss, but don't force the cat to interact if he doesn't want to.
That sounds like terrier prey drive behavior. When I was looking for a cat friendly dog at the shelter, they said that the best response was mild interest. Staring and trembling would make me VERY nervous. Always have a dog tested for cat friendliness before you bring him home.
No it is not that undesirable i've got had canines that throughout the time of basic terms had rabies photos whilst i grew to become right into a baby and on an identical time as an person i could p.c.. strays in no way had a concern. do no longer permit her in anybody elses backyard and save her faraway from different canines whilst they arise smelling each and each others noses is even nice extremely. a quick little pass to. yet strolling her whilst no one is out is nice. As for the food save dry food out for her in any respect cases next to her water she could gobble it down till now each and every thing yet whilst she realizes it is going to consistently be there whilst ever she gets hungry she'll backpedal. provide her canned food on a particular occassion. And treats on the tip of a consultation of educating. Use a cope with to coach her a trick interior the beginning up then use in basic terms compliment. whilst human beings use treats each and all of the time for each trick they do the dogs turns into uninterested in the cope with and could no longer do what you tell them to do. And confer together with her each and all of the time like a baby she would be able to earnings what you assert and comprehend alot better than you think of. solid success.
i think the dog is scared of cats and the cat dosen't want to share his territory with the dog.
are his ears and tail both back and is he crouching? that could be submission. If he stands tall and his ears are up, he could bite, but the tail between the legs is generally a sign of submission.
hes scared/nervous. he may have never seen a cat before
if u have a dog,it should not be tied up.as for your cats, just keep them in a room away from the dog
