I just got a 55" tv. I actually asked the sales man which ones have 3.5mm headphone output jacks and he couldn't show me on the box and he said just look on the back of the display tvs. Well he ends up telling me that the digital audio out is the headphone jack so I pick the tv I wanted with that feature(without me knowing because this is my first tv with digital opt output/input).
I take it home and I find out that it doesn't work and I was about to call samsung to ask for help but they were closed. So i figured it was a setting or something which is why i didn't return it. So i call them as soon as they open the next day and I find out the only way that I can use that op out plug is with a soundbar. (and I diddnt return it because it is no longer blackfriday and I am not about to spend 500 extra dollars for a tv for a 3.5mm output), the tv I got was like 650$ off and it was a samsung.
From my experience the people on the support lines don't exactly tell you the truth about what will work and what wont because they either don't know enough, aren't allowed to, or are generally as*holes trying to get you to buy something that you don't need.
The reason why I want a headphone jack is because I don't want to blow the speakers out when playing loud video games, and usually with that 3.5mm output I can plug it into some regular computer speakers. Also I wanted the 3.5mm for when I want to listen to something loud at night I could use headphones.
My question is:
Is there any way to get the digital optical output to connect with an adapter so that I can end up plugging it into a 3.5mm speaker input(hopefully with no negative effects to the sound)?
Update:Wait whoops. I got confused with the links... Its as you described sorry.
Update 3:except I don't think I need that 1/4 to 3.5mm

$25.00 http://www.amazon.com/D3-Digital-Converter-Optical... That is an optical in to a 1/4in or other analog out. You can order a 1/4 to 3.5 mm adapter on monoprice.com or even amazon or go to a radio shack or other electronics store. you would need a 1/4in male to 3.5mm female adapter Here is one the other way http://www.amazon.com/Analog-Digital-Optical-Coaxi... this is digital in to analog out.
No.., i do not consider you need The exceptional OF THE quality as so that it will most often get you in debt (into the million buck margin or on the whole even more). I believe what you need or need is a relatively just right process at around $1,000 (bucks) or perhaps even much less. I consistently endorse this next system because of two explanations: FIRST when you consider that it is the high of the road from ONKYO and second considering it has an high-quality value, a whole THX system: The ONKYO HT-S9400THX 7.1 process. That is commonly an ONKYO TX-NR616 or 626 receiver with all ONKYO speakers incorporated. Not like your SONY or SAMSUNG systems where you don't have so much options to combine or develop your method. And please don't do not forget BOSE as they don't seem to be even just about the first-rate and you'll grow to be paying too much with them. Most humans that have BOSE do not know about audio methods, they only purchase it considering that they think in all their advertising and their salesmen. And when you don't just like the process that I recommended then you recall a DENON receiver and some decent JAMO audio system, you won't remorse it. Excellent good fortune.
