My friend has photoshop and he used it on some of my pictures. I thought it was pretty cool and wan't to download it. However, I do not have much money right now. Also, I heard it was illegal so I don't want to download it. So is there any other program such as Photoshop; but free? If so, please send me a link and please make sure it has NO viruses.

GNU Image Manipulation program. GIMP for short.

Both Photoshop and GIMP are quite complex. For something a little less complicated, you might also try paint.net (assuming you're on Windows):

Photoshop is cool, and unfortunatly, there is no opensource or free version that really emulates it quite yet, which could be considered surprising considering its popularity. A good cheep alternative is Paint Shop Pro from Coral. While I think it arrived on the scene at almost the same time as photoshop, and does almost everything in almost the same way as Photoshop, essentially a clone, but for a fraction of the price, it never gained popularity. I would recommend it though. While not quite as powerful as Photoshop, I would consider it more accessable. Then again, the free ones are easy to get and try, and since you are only starting off, it is probably best to start with the free ones and stick to them. I would recommend the Gimp, it is more popular as well as being opensource, and should have greater future potential over any of the alternatives.
First off, KUDOS for having a conscience!!!
NOBODY needs to steal commercial software, period. There are almost always free alternatives. For example, Adobe Inc. recently put up this free online photo editing website so people would (hopefully) stop stealing their $900 Flagship program:
It doesn't do everything PS does, but should do what most new PS users want or need.
No need to download anything!
If you want to try a simple free program, I use Photo Editor (it used to be a Windows Marketplace Add On called Photo Toolkit)
I like to use the Make Up tools to retouch photos. You can also remove red eye instantly, enhance the color of the image, make funny caricatures, add astonishing lighting effects, denoise, straighten, resample and crop images.
You can download Gimp for free here http://bitly.com/1wDtLEd
Gimp is a free, open source tool that lets you create and edit images.
