I have a Gateway laptop with Windows XP. The touchpad has been working fine since I got it about three years ago, but all of a sudden it seized up and stopped working properly. It would move but it wouldn't let me click. I restarted the computer three times and reinstalled it twice but I still have the same problem. When I roll over icons that I should be able to click on and the scroll bar they're highlighted as if I can click on them but when I do, nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this? USB mice and my bamboo tablet work on it.

Open Control Panel and go to your Mouse settings
You'll find these tabs
Buttons | Pointers | Pointer Options | Wheel | Hardware
The last tab should be something like "Device Settings". Click it.
Then select your touchpad from the list and hit Settings...
Find the setting where you can enable tapping on the surface for clicking
If you don't see "Device Settings" among the tabs, you need to install drivers for your touchpad
Go to Gateway's website and look for it in their support section
After installing the drivers, you may need to restart the computer for it to appear
it particularly is that if u have residing house windows: flow to "administration panel." click on "mouse." (it rather is below hardware and sound) there'll probable a tab that proclaims "hp touchpad." or "touchpad settings." of a few form. then you definately can personalize your settings. solid luck!!
