Hi. I'm taking a cruise on May 16th out of Civitavecchia, Italy. However we are flying in on the 15th and staying in Rome one night. (we are also staying in Rome 2 nights after the end of the cruise) I was wondering the best way of transportation between the city center and the port. I know train is the cheapest but how easy is it to maneuver? How about handling luggage? Also, I heard the port is still a 20-30 minute walking distance from the train station? Has anyone done this?
Also, the cruise line is Norwegian. Has anyone cruised with them before? Do they offer a shuttle from the train station to the port?
Thank you for the help

here is what NCL offers for ground tranfers to the pier, straight from their website
If you’ve made your own flight arrangements to your embarkation city and want to avoid the hassle of waiting at a taxi stand, Norwegian offers ground transfers between the airport and the pier.
Please call our Reservations Department at 800.327.7030 to make your transfer arrangements. If you have made your cruise reservation through a travel agency, please contact your agent directly to book your transfer.
Important Information about Norwegian Cruise Line Ground Transfers
Airport to pier transfer or vice versa are available for purchase for all guests.
All guests who purchase transfers will receive their transfer voucher with their eDocs.
A Norwegian Cruise Line representative will meet you in the baggage claim area for domestic flights and outside of customs for international flights to assist with transportation to the ship or hotel (if applicable).
For cruise-only guests booking your own return flights, we suggest a departure time no less than six hours after the announced arrival time of the ship.
ill put the link in the source, have cruised with them many times but never knew about this offer until recently!
You can get exact answers to your questions on cruisecritic.com. But because Rome is well over an hours drive from the port, I would use ground transportation offered by the cruise company. That way, they load up your luggage in a bus. Then when you reach the port, you identify your luggage and leave it right there. it will be delivered to your cabin later. This is one port where using ground transportation by the cruise line is well worth the money. Most all cruise companies offer shuttles to the ports, so give them a call just to be sure. Never the less, you may find much better answers on cruisecritic then you will find here.
