I'm a college student. and I spend most of my time in the library using the computers. I use the internet a lot. And besides doing my school work online, I also check my emails, social networking sites, entertainment news cites, celeb fan forums, and also Y!Answers. Our library is pretty lenient in what we can do. We can even watch vids and movies on the computers if we need too. My question is, which type of sites are inappropiate in a college library (or any library). Of course I know pornographic and nudity sites are off limits. But which other sites would it be inappropriate to view in this setting? Any of the ones I listed? Thanks!

As others said... anything that could land you in an FBI interrogation room (terrorist sites, hate group sites, etc.). Also, if one of your friends snuck up behind you and started to look over your shoulder at what you were viewing before letting you know they were there, what would you want them to NOT see on your screen?
The rule of thumb is this: if it can stand up to public scrutiny, it's OK. If the average person would not be offended by the content of the sites you visit, then feel free to visit them. I understand the responses you have already gotten: be courteous when you do use the computers - if there are people waiting to use computers and you're done with the most pressing work, then it would be polite to step aside and let someone else use the computer rather than spend a lot of time visiting social sites.
I would avoid any anti American sites (or anti- your government site if you're not in the US) because that may draw some unwanted attention to you. Or any kind of hate sites, you know when you log into your library they keep tabs on what sites you go to. So I would stay away from those sites that may make me look like I'm trying to start or be apart of some hate group or anti-government group.
If it's a public university, than I would think there are no limits. Even pornographic sites should be protected as free speech, as long as their not otherwise illegal.
But that's just my opinion.
To me, it depends on how busy it is. My university's two main computer commons are often very busy, and sometimes there are people waiting for a computer to become free. When it's like that, I think it's best to do your work and get out.
But if it's not busy, and there are other terminals available, then it's ok to use them for your personal email, Y!A, etc..
Stay clear of sites like download.com or torrent sites. Libraries are strict when it comes to downloading. That's about it.

there is probably a policy for computer use.
Anything that has "adult content" or can be offending to others.
