no question, this holiday is really out of date. unfortunately it is only in the last generation or two that people who are not white counted for anything in this country - so it is only recently that anyone thought that perhaps columbus wasn't such a hero - and it takes a while for people to get out of a habit, and it takes a really really long time for a big group of people (like the whole country) to agree to changing something that has been traditional for a long time.
