Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullah
Aodubillahi mi na shaytaanir rajeem.
I hope not to offened anyone or Allah (subhanu wa' ta'ala) with this question.
I understand most of you will answer 'From Hadiths!'
However, there are some Hadiths that are considered 'weak' or 'strong' depending upon popularity. (Let's be honest with ourselves.) Sahih Al Bukhari is probably the most accepted one.
In the Qur'an, Allah prescribes 3 prayers > Salat Al Fajr, Salat Al Isha & Salat Al Wusta (Midday). (Qu'ran 4:103)
The claim that the Hadith is there to understand the Qur'an is wrong because the Qur'an clearly states>
"Shall I seek other than God as a source of law when He has brought down to you this book fully detailed?" 6:114
My view is that it is obviously not a SIN to pray 5 times a day like the Hadiths order but Allah's law (The Qur'an) superpasses any other law/narration.
If praying Maghrib & Asr is AS important as many Muslims say it is today, it would be written in the Holy Qur'an as clearly as the others are.
I am a Muslim. I don't belong to any sect. Alhamdullilah. I pray 5 times a day because that's what I've been told to do from culture etc. However, what's more important? The Qur'an from ALMIGHTY ALLAH subhanu wa ta'ala or a Hadith 'narrated' by the Prophets companions? Also, the Hadith were put together after the Prophets death.
Anyways, what do you fellow Muslims think of this? I am not trying to offend anyone like I've mentioned before.
I'm just trying to seek knowledge & insha'Allah help others.
Peace :D

Wa alaikum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh We Muslims have the obligation to pray at least 5 times a day because we need purification just like bathing 5 x a day we will be so clean We will always neat and clean and our small sins will be automatically be forgiven by Allah Our mind will feel fresher after performing prayer and our heart will be calm no stress and no tension We will be closer to Allah and Allah will bless us more If we pray properly our other activities will be good too.Praying will refuse or avoid bad doing and support good deeds.Praying is one of the important part of the 5 pillars of Islam. so we need it..Alhamdulillah I pray 5 times a day timely too just like you May Allah always bless us all and guide us to the right path Ameen
So praising and prostrating to Allah 2 more times is a bad thing?
You believe that 2 more times is painful and it hurts you?
The Five Times Are Specified in the Quran
(1) The Dawn Contact Prayer is mentioned by name in 24:58. Before sunrise.
(2) The Noon Contact Prayer is specified in 17:78. When the sun declines.
(3) The Afternoon Contact Prayer is in 2:238. Midway between noon & sunset.
(4) The Sunset Contact Prayer is mentioned in 11:114. Immediately after sunset.
(5) The Night Contact Prayer is in 11:114, and is mentioned by name in 24:58.
brother.. this is not the first time i have heard this question..
and i agree that the quran is complete and the hadeeth is just the explanation and the commentary (actions and done by the prophet and things said by him to explain the quran)
you have to study the carefully with the commentary and the references..
read the quran in 16:78 allah is telling mohammed pbuh: (pray the time after sunrise until the darkness of the night and the quran -here it means recitation- of the morning -before sunrise- )
this verse speaks of the 5 prayers but in a simple manner (and it was explained in the hadeeth) now i will explain it..
the quran (recitation of the quran) in the morning (before sunrise) is referring to the prayer of fajr which is the first payer in the day.
and prayer after the sunrise is referring to the prayer of duhr and asr which are during and after the afternoon .
and the darkness of the night is referring to the magrib and ishaa prayers ..
i am an arab and i translated the verses as good as possible from arabic to english..
sorry if the verses are not good eneough..
anyways ..hope that it was a good explanation
peace :D
:0 fitna fitna fitna ........fitna why would you ask something like this on the web this is something for the sheikhs. Why would you want to create doubt in your brothers and sisters. How many ayats in the quran say to take the prophet s.a.w as an example and follow him? alot. So why would you doubt something that is a pillar in your religion and has many strong hadith supporting it. If your intentions where good when asking this i hope allah gives you more knowledge and eman and please delete this question. If your intentions are bad I hope you lose your left pinky(dont like making big dua you can live without a left pinky but it will be a lesson you wont forget)
Just as man is an example in miniature of the greater world and Sura al-Fatiha a shining sample of the Qur'an of Mighty Stature, so are the prescribed prayers a comprehensive, luminous index of all varieties of worship, and a sacred map pointing to all the shades of worship of all the classes of creatures.
@ "Shall I seek other than God as a source of law when He has brought down to you this book fully detailed?" 6:114
'... fully detailed?''
To whom? Not to everyone.
To only those '...men of understanding'. The prophet, next his companions, and the ulamaks.
He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.
( سÙرة آ٠ع٠را٠, Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #7)
Do you have the required credentials to interpret the Quran?
Just follow those who have.
Well theres so manny hadiths about praying 5 times a day, not all of them are weak.
God told Mohammad
as usual there was no witnesses,
Because that's what Mohammed said and did so it's, you know, the ol' Sunnah thing.
