I also like to say that British banks like HSBC,Barclays and Std Chartered had for centuries carried British financial system flag in America,Asia,Africa,India etc.and are top and profitable banks in those countries.Their banking excellience is renowned based on liquidity,profitabily and security. HSBC is the largest bank in Europe in terms of assets. Barclays is well known for its investment banking in America and its retail banking in Britain,the middle east and Africa. Std Chartered top bank in Singapore where all its profits comes from Asia.All these three British banks have strong balance sheets with huge accumulated profits and reserves.
Its only those banks which the government had nationalised and bailed out and had taken stakes with taxpayers money that need to build up their reserves. The Bank of England should think of ways to sell them interested investors or mergered them with top banks so that tens of billions pounds can be returned to the Treasury.
