what reasons are there for children to do chores?

a chore, or job really, is a responsibility...

the first step out into the wide world.... even though it is in parents home....

the person given the job learns how to do something... keeps his/her space clean.... is contributing to the household.. to the family... depending on the actual job given.....

adults work outside the home and in it, right?

a child's job outside the home is school.... to learn

inside the home the jobs start small... boring... as the child grows so do the jobs...... so do the priviledges as well though.. and/or allowance....

gives a child a source of self-pride to be able to help out... to be able to do things for his or herself.....

in a family, things are split as evenly as possible.... our parents are there to teach, love, guide.... not be our maids... servants.. if the jobs within the home are not shared, they fall on the shoulders of one or two.... leaving the child more time to play... but leaving the one or two no time to sit... breathe.... play.... or enjoy the family at all.....

yes a child should be allowed to play, have fun... be a child... within reason and balanced with the fact that they are growing up.... and learning the good habits.. doing the work first then playing teaches them that even as they grow.. the fun can still be had... along with the allowance... respect.... and priviledges

the only reason a child should not do chores is if he/she is too young (newborn) or both arms and legs have tragically, temperarily been broken...... or if the child is too sick to move...

other than that; they are family members and all members shold pitch in where possible.... to share the load.... or they should pay their portion of bills? like a room mate? not a family member?

Kids should definently do chores. It teaches them responsibility, and gives them a good feeling that they are taking part in helping the family. Getting an allowance for completing chores is even better - they can start to learn the value of a dollar!

Kids should not have an excessive amount of chores that takes away from their experience of being a child. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." You know the saying. It is very important for a child to have some chores though. A child that grows up having everything done for them reaches adulthood and does not realize that he has to do something for himself. He is not ready for reality and continues to think everything should be handed to him. A child that has a reasonable amount of chores learns that responsibility is part of life, and not a choice. Giving chores is the parents way of preparing a child for the adult world, and making sure that they learn the pride of a job well-done, and the rewards that can come with that!

I do not fell like there is any reason for a kid not to do chores unless the child is incapable or the child is sick children need to do chores to learn responsibility and how to learn how to do things the right way so when they are an adult they will know every child needs chores along with learning they also need to learn how to pick up after themselves and how to help their parents

Because there's nothing more pathetic than an adult who doesn't know how to make a bed or cook himself a meal or wash a dish. Although I hated doing chores as a kid, I thank God I had to do them now because it made me a self-sufficient person. Plus it's a great way to teach kids about earning money and the value of a dollar. Not to mention that no one in a family is the designated maid. Everyone should help out.

I don't know why children shouldn't have chores unless they have some type of physical or mental disability. I believe that it helps build a person. I remember washing dishes and clothes, cooking, planting trees, picking peas, and cutting grass during the summer and I feel like that it has help me become the person I am today (a college graduate, stay-home mom {due to medical reasons}, and wife). If you teach them when they are young, when they grow up it will be like second nature to them. They will know that in order to get something in life they will have to work hard for it. They will know that it's not going to be just handed to them on a silver platter. I started working (getting paid)for thing that I want at a very young age.

when you give a child a chore it teaches them responsibility and prepares them to be independent and want to work for things. It allows them to recognize that you must contribute your part to the household and eventually to society. Besides it teaches them life skills that they will need as the grow older. Believe me it will be a blessing once they start helping around the house.

I believe it is only bad to give chores if they are not appropriate for the child because of age. You would not give a 5 year lawn mowing as a chore.

There are no valid reasons for children not to do chores. Children doing chores gives them a sense of responsibility, contribution to the operation and maintenance of the family unit, that the blessings of reward have to be earned, that being a member of a family is a co-operative effort. The time to instill values in children is when they are young. They need to understand that you do not receive, just because you want. but, that you receive because you have earned. Chores instill the principle of collective responsibility and purposeful participation with in the family. I don't suggest that all the duties be heaped upon the children. But, a balanced approach to responsibility and reward is essential. It prepares the child for living within a world that is predicated upon the idea, that you produce to receive compensation. It provides structure, boundaries (of acceptable and not acceptable work), standards, incentive, value and a sense of well-being and self-worth. Along with chores well done, the child receives praise, reward, a sense of accomplishment, purpose and belonging. There are no valid reasons for children not to start doing chores, as soon as they are able to follow simple and complete instructions, for simple chores.

Kids should always do chores, it teaches responsiblity and helps them learn they need to earn thier $ (if they are getting an allowance). Even when the kids are toddlers they shoudl help with simple things like putting toys back ect (once they learn to follow simple directions) that way chores are always a normal thing for them.

Kids should do some chores that suite there abilities and age level!It teaches responsibility and may be an excellent way for them to learn what it takes to earn allowance or fun activities/toys. In my opinion there aren't any reasons why kids shouldn't be helpful unless it' for a medical or mentally physical reason and they aren't capable but even then it should be encouraged to because kids are so easy to ''mold'' at a certain age and if you don't make them at least pick up after themselves or make their own beds then they will be slobs and never want to do it/
