I HAVE A 1995 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX WITH THE 3.1 V6 ENG. IT DOESNT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE. ALL OTHER SHIFTS ARE FINE. LOOKING FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES. THX
Update:ENGINE DOES NOT REACH FULL TEMPERATURE, NEEDS THERMOSTAT. LOW OPERATING TEMP IS KEEPING TRANS FROM SHIFTING INTO OVERDRIVE?

Is the torque converter clutch locking-up? Who told you that? The coolant temperature has nothing to do with shifting into OD on this application! You probably have a code # 28 stored in the PCM (powertrain control module), When code 28 is stored the transaxle will not shift into overdrive or have Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) engagement.
The transaxle range switch grounds 12v from the PCM in different combinations to indicate PRNDL position. You probably have a bad TR (transmission range) position switch!
NOTE: "Flash-out the codes" to see if any transmission related codes are stored!

The 4th clutch hub is stripped out. Very common problem with 4T60E transmissions. There is an aftermarket updated one with hardend splines to correct that problem. I gave seen hundreds of those with that problem.
