What does the number mean in the bra size? Is it the width of your abdomen? I know the A, B, C etc means your cup size but what does the 34, 36, etc. stand for?
I'm currently wearing a 34 B and I'm confused if I should go up to a 34 C or a 36 B

You should go up to a 34 C...the number is your band size, or the circumference of the area under your bust. When you change bra sizes, that number shouldn't change (unless somehow your ribs got fatter or something lol). However, the cup size should go up a letter, from A to B to C.
The number is the measurement around your body in the area directly under your breasts. When you measure around the fullest point of your breasts, you can minus the first figure from the second and that tells you what cup size you need. A 1" difference is an A cup and 2" is a B cup, and so on. So measure yourself properly and get fitted in store, to get the right size.
the cup size, i.e. A B C D, will always stay the same
but the numbers is the total length of the bra strap, in cm, though im not sure.
go on vicotoriassecret.com and scroll down to the bottoms and look on the side bar
they have a help section for those who are confused.
