I own a 2000 Mercury Villager and I only use it to drive it home and back from school which is a 4 hour drive. However, over the summer I had a problem with the car overheating and i took it to be repaired and they told me coolant wasn't making it through to the radiator so they poured coolant directly in and it fixed the problem. Despite all this my car still smokes out of the hood all the time even if it hasnt had a chance to heat up yet. So now that i'm back at school I went to get an oil change and they told me that I have a cracked block and im leaking oil and coolant and it's a miracle my car made it to school in the first place. I'd really like to hang on to this car but its not worth a new engine. He told me its only a matter of time till the car dies and i should not drive over 35 MPH since the wheels will lock and i could flip on the highway... I have my doubts about his opinion though because i would think wheels locking when an engine seizes could be a safety hazard to many people and also if my car is as bad as he thought how did i use it all summer with only changing the oil and filling the coolant once.
I will be honest i know little about cars. I just want to know if you think id be able to make it home safely if i still needed to travel.

Usually when a engine blows up it does not lock the wheels up its like you would have the car in neutral with engine off you will have no power brakes no power steering if ran without oil you most likely throw a connecting rod i would not drive it if it were me but if you do check the water and oil levels every time you leave you can add if needed but its just a matter of time you will be stranded on the other hand a head would only cost about 300 or so and probably around 600 to 900 to have a shop replace it so your looking at a total of about 1300 to replace now can you get a decent running car for that probably not so if you do drive it not long drives because you can warp other parts and save up the the money to replace the head
I had one of those myself, a 4 hr. drive is long and as long as you keep everything top-ed off you'll make for some time. Water going into oil, you'll be changing that baby often. Auto trans, the motor will disengage. Good Luck
.
the worst that can happened is that the car will stop running that's all get a block sealer about 50 dollars and drive it until it breaks down . . next time get a honda or toyota
=== the loss of your life and that of others on the highway is never worth that drive .... Please do not drive that 4 hours of highway .... you are not safe with an engine in that condition ... it would be better to Junk the Villager and take the bus home AND be SAFE than get in an accident and wreak havoc on the roadway -- yourself -- and others ..... park the car and take the bus ......
if you think id be able to make it home safely if i still needed to travel.
I give it a 50/50 chance and just so you know; when I'm made to choose on 50-50 odds I'm wrong 90% of the time.
