Are there any mythological/legendary/fantastic/fictional creatures that are similar to dragons, but maybe smaller or more dangerous? :)
Update:No, not historical creatures, I mean something that doesn't really exist, but people made it up, like dragons... :P

Chinese called it yuen half dragon half tortoise. chimera such as Merlion half lion half fish, Griffin half eagle half lion, Mermaid half human half fish, Liger half lion half tiger, Centaur half human half animal, half lion half dragon (usually guarding shrine/temples) Sphinx half human half lion, Shisa (statues in Okinawa) half lion half dog, getting quite common people are shaving their pet dogs like chow chow to look like shisa and several other chimera etc *
What your thinking of is a wyvern. It had dragon-like/bat-like front wings, no back legs, and a barbed tail, that it uses to stab things & it has poisonous venom, similar to a scorpion. It's kinda has a body like a snake, but the 1st half is like a dragon. Some say it had a dragon-like head, others say it has a giant snake head. Every 10 years it begins to grow another head. When they are young they look like salamanders, with really long pointy teeth.
Well there was the griffin, and of course the chimera. Both were pretty dangerous, but some dragons were close to immortal.
Dinosours
Griffins, and the Phoenix.
I heard the phoenix only lays one egg and then it dies and gets rebirth into the egg. so it "reborns".
Edit: Centaur? half man and half horse.
Pegasus, a horse with wings.
Ambush Drake.
Salamanders, sea serpents, gryphons, chimeras, drakons, basilisks.
