Unless you are flying into No gales, which I sincerely doubt, you will need both a drivers license and a certificate of birth, if you were born in the USA or Canada. After June 09 you will need a passport.
However, having said that, the passport is still the best form of identification recognized world-wide. If you plan to leave the USA in the future it is best to apply for a passport as soon as you can.
If you are driving or crossing the border by foot you are not required to have a passport until June 2009. You will need a birth certificate and drivers license.
Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.
However after the first of June you will need a passport or a passport card within the Western Hemisphere.
no longer yet. they save pushing that requirement returned. A drivers license continues to be all you like at this factor. the only benefit to a passport top now's that some border checkpoints are turning out to be separate and swifter strains for people with passports. i desire this helped. people save stating a modern replace in the guidelines. That concerns FLYING out and in of Mexico, no longer purely walking around the border. i understand through fact I stay purely some blocks from the border.
You got a WHOLE bunch of wrong answers. Passports will NOT be needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico until June 2009. Right now, you need your birth certificate and photo I.D. See site below to read the law for yourself.
Just piling on with the correct answer, to try to counteract the amount of wrong answers.
If you are flying, you will need a passport. If you are driving, you need government ID (driver's license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).
Went not too long ago. I just walked right in and no one asked for a passport. Those things change with the weather so it is hard to say, but I would lean towards no.
